DOGS

I felt very privileged to be asked to judge at this special show, and was so pleased that it was eventually able to go ahead.  Well done Steve, Julie and all the committee for a wonderful day. The venue was superb for current times, so much space for everyone, the sun came out, and everyone enjoyed a toast and piece of a superbly made and unbelievably decorated and very tasty celebration cake, made by Janey Sutherland. Thank you all very much.

Also a big thank you to everybody for bringing your lovely Welsh boys to see me, they were all delightful and you always take the best dog/dogs home.  I was delighted with the entry and no absentees.  Special thanks must also go to my 2 stewards, Chris & Pam, you were both brilliant at keeping everything running smoothly.  Well done.

Most of the older dogs appeared happy to be back in the ring & seemed unconcerned about the strange masked faces about them, and only a couple of the youngsters were a little worried to begin with, which shows really good temperament in all. I was delighted to see almost all the dogs had a good spring of rib, no slab sides, which is a great improvement.

I was slightly disturbed though by the lack of forechest (pro-sternum) in many of the young stock which I think breeders should pay heed to.  I worked my Welsh on very tough terrain and know just how important correct conformation is.  I appreciate that there is no mention of ‘forechest’ or ‘pro-sternum’ in our breed standard, but lack of it affects heart and lung room as well as front angulations.

Barbara Atwood, bitch judge, and I agreed on all the final results.

Minor Puppy (0)

Puppy (1)

1st  Clarke’s - TIGERROCK MAGIC ROUNDABOUT  naf BDP

Lovely head with a good square muzzle and a kind eye, superb bone and very neat feet, moved well holding a good topline.  Just needs to gain a bit more confidence, but only 10 months old so I am sure it will come.  Unfortunate to be the only babe in the first class of the day which probably didn’t help either. He did gain more confidence as the day went on, but lost out to the extrovert bitch puppy, whose tail didn’t stop wagging, for BPIB. I will watch his progress with interest.

Junior (4)

1st  Clarke’s - HENIVEROUS RAINBOW BY TIGERROCK naf taf

Smart & happy lad, 14 months old, with a nice head and eye, good topline & bone, very neat & deep pads, moved well holding his topline and tail carriage well. Should have a promising future.

2nd Jones - TROSLEY TAMOSHANTA

Strong and happy young lad, displaying a very nice outline and was beautifully presented. Slightly stronger head than 1 currently, good chiselling and a very kind eye. Moved well, tail slightly high, but forgiven as only a youngster at his first show. For me he lacked in fore chest unfortunately.

3rd. Hankins - JULITA RAINMAKER WITH WOODELROND

Yearling (3)

1st  Hills-Page - LLON CAMRI

A very well put together young chap in excellent coat, condition and presentation. Lovely outline with super bone and neat feet, good angulation fore and aft, excellent forechest, moved with drive, holding a good topline.  He did carry his tail a bit high, but the set and start were correct, (I was looking at him as if he were docked). Should have a bright future, especially so with his breeding, eg: a son of BIS!!

2nd  Leach’s - ISLANZA HEY DUDE

A very smart chap of good type, good bone, enough angulation fore and aft, hocks well let down,  nice head and eye, moved well.   Needs to gain in confidence to show himself to advantage.

3rd Buckwells - KELLENA SHADOW DANCING

Maiden (7)

1st Hills-Page - LLON CAMRI

2nd Clarke’s - TIGERROCK MAGIC ROUNDABOUT naf

3rd White’s - MYMMSBROOK MALBEC WITH FIERGEN

Novice (5)

1st Hills-Page - LLON CAMRI

2nd Clarke’s - TIGERROCK MAGIC ROUNDABOUT naf

3rd Clarke’s - HENIVEROUS RAINBOW BY TIGERROCK naf

Graduate (2)

1st Barkley’s - CHANANGEL MR WHODAT AT CHERRYHEATH JW

Very nice type, all Welsh, handsome head with correct chiselling and kind, gentle expression, plus neat ears. Excellent bone, good feet, strong well built body, just lacking a little in forechest for me and his movement was slightly erratic today and his tail carried quite high. I think he was just thoroughly enjoying himself actually !!

2nd Morphy’s - CAERGRAWNT TULIP PAINTER WITH ECHOPHY

Happy, confident lad with a lovely head and eye, slightly too tall and lean for me.

Post Graduate (5)

1st Gough’s - JULITA RUKESTER

A good old fashioned, workman like boy. Classic welsh head, eye and expression, enough bone, correct angulation fore and aft, moved very well around the ring on good feet. A lot to like about him, he was another carrying his tail proud today, but good set. Lacked in forechest for me.

2nd Wren’s - LLON DERWEN DAR AT GWYNMARREN

Another very handsome, strongly made boy. Excelling in bone and good feet, strong wide thighs with correct angulation, short hocks. Moved well.

3rd Wright’s - TAIHANG HAWTHORN

Mid Limit (9)

1st Bennett’s - HELGEN ROMEO THE LOVER

Very good type and colour, shown well in good bloom and presentation. Very nice head, masculine without coarseness, neat low set ears, gentle eye and expression, good straight front with enough bone, correct angulation both ends, neat feet. A lot to like about him. Moved well

2nd Harrison’s - GLENBROWS REVOLUTION

Very strong, eye catching, smart young boy who powered around the ring.  A bit rangy with too much neck for me, but at his age, 2 years, he is still maturing and coming together.

3rd Gough’s - JULITA RUKESTER

Limit (9)

A very strong class, some difficult decisions

1st Wren’s - LLON LEWYS AT GWYNMARRON

Won this strong class on his movement. Very well put together boy and really nice presentation and handling.  Presents a good outline with the exception of not having a rise over the loin. Strong straight bne, neat feet, correct forechest, good angulation front and back, lovely head and eye.  At just over 3 years and all things being equal I think he should have a very promising future.

2nd McIlwaine & Reynolds - GLENBROWS VAN GOGH FOR BENOVEOR JW

In profile powering around the ring he looked magnificent and I thought he was my winner, so a very close decision indeed.  Really good topline and tail carriage, strong straight bone, neat feet, good head and eye. Pipped to the post by the more positive going and coming movement of 1.

3rd Blackford’s - AMBLELIGHT GALATEA

Open (8)

Another quality class

1st Sutherland’s - JACKRANELLA SOLO

A super dog, good size and colour, created a really good outline and moved so purposefully. Beautifully presented and so well handled.  Lovely head, eye & ear, correct angulation front and rear and excellent forechest, good straight bone and the best of feet.

2nd Williams - ISFRYN SPOT THE DIFFERENCE TREBETTYN

A slightly larger and stronger built boy than 1, but very well made. Powered around the ring holding his topline and tail carriage well.  Strong straight bone, good angulation, neat feet.

3rd Worth’s - SARABANDE LORD OF THE DANCE (AI) JW

Champion (2)

2 very worthy champions

1st Oliver’s - SH CH GLENBROWS ROYAL DRAGON

This boy made my heart melt, I wouldn’t change a thing about him, he screams Welsh in every way - Strong, Merry & Active.  Powered around the ring demanding to be noticed with his wonderful profile and superb temperament, in gleaming coat of a good colour.  Can’t fault him, wish he was mine!! The profile flow from the top of his very handsome head to the tip of his tail is simply wonderful, he was shown so well. CC & BIS

2nd Clarke’s - SH CH FERNDEL HIGH FIDELITY WITH TIGERROCK ShCEx

Another very well made boy, unlucky to meet 1 in such good form.  Lovely head & eye, neat ears, good straight well boned front legs, enough width and bend of thigh, very neat feet, correct topline with a gentle rise over his loin and good forechest. RCC

Veteran (6)

A wonderful class of gorgeous older gentlemen

1st Barkley’s - SH Ch CHERRYHEATH’S MR MISCHIEF JW ShCM

Another very worthy Sh Ch now rapidly approaching 10 years.  Although his once beautiful red coat has gone quite white, he certainly hasn’t lost any of his great conformation qualities and can still show the young kids on the block how to move.  Super topline with correct rise over loin, good forechest and quarters, tight neat feet, good tail carriage and set. BVIS

2nd Stone’s - STEDIGAN ALL IN GOOD TIME FOR MERREM

A younger chap at 7.5 years looking very fit and has now developed into a very nice type of Welsh.  Good size and colour, excellent bone and neat feet.  Nice head, eye and expression, strong neck, good shoulders, moved well.
